Interested in Running for Lincoln City Council or Treasurer?

Individuals interested in running for office are encouraged to attend a candidate workshop provided by the Placer County Elections Office. The workshop will be held Wednesday, July 13th at 6 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room, Lincoln City Hall, 600 6th Street, Lincoln.

The workshop is open to the public and intended to provide an instructional overview of the deadlines, regulations, and process for running for office.

First Signs of West Nile Virus Activity in Placer County

SIGNS OF WEST NILE VIRUS ACTIVITY IN PLACER COUNTY

The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District reported yesterday that six mosquito samples and one dead bird have tested positive for West Nile virus this week. The mosquito samples were collected from sites along the county's western border, from as far south as the north Elverta area, and as far north as Lincoln. The dead bird was collected from Rocklin. Mosquito numbers have also increased in the past week, most likely from sustained higher temperatures.

District staff have been moving aggressively to control immature mosquito populations out in the agricultural areas to the west, in an effort to stem the development of adult mosquitoes. "This kind of mosquito and West Nile virus activity is not unusual for this time of year. We are concerned that the timing of this increase in West Nile virus activity comes right before a long holiday weekend, when people are more likely to be spending a lot of time outdoors, especially during the dusk and evening hours," states Joel Buettner, District general manager.

Due to this latest development, the District is planning both aerial treatments and ground-based treatments for adult mosquitoes. More information about the planned treatment will be available on the District's website www.placermosquito.org. The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District advises the public to implement the 3 Ds of protection:

Drain or dump any standing water that may produce mosquitoes.
Defend yourself and your home by using a CDC-recommended insect repellent and dressing protectively when outside, and making sure screens on doors and windows are in good condition.
Contact the District for any additional help controlling mosquitoes around your home.

July 4th Mural Unveiling

Immediately following the 4th of July parade, City officials and local artist Viktor Vehovod will unveil the second installment of the City's Art in Public Places Campaign. The unveiling will take place on the alley side of Simple Pleasures Restaurant off of Fifth Street.

McBean Park Drive Bridge Replacement Project

The upcoming McBean Park Drive Bridge Replacement Project will replace the existing bridge on McBean Park Drive over the Auburn Ravine to improve flood protection and improve mobility over the ravine. The bridge will be designed and built as a gateway into downtown Lincoln with construction anticipated to begin in 2018 and completed in 2019. The project team has developed three preliminary concepts for the design of the bridge, and is seeking community input on 3 concepts.

With the City's new website, we now have such a tool in place! And the process is simple.

It is our hope that by using this tool, all City service organizations and event planners will get more exposure for their special events, and that by avoiding multiple events on the same day, each event will be well attended and a huge success!
